Fun Facts
I like to play badminton. When I was young, my dad and I always play badminton at the park. Althoug my dad is not a professional badminton player, he helps me to develop an interest in playing sports. He would share his childhood stories with me while we rest. I enjoy that time that my dad and I can have a bonding together as friends.
About Me
My name is Min (Karen). My family and I moved to the U.S couple years ago from China.I lived in China for 15 years, and I am fluent in speaking and writing Cantonese and Mandarin. Chinese culture influence me a lot, and I am very thankful that I was able to grow up in China. Also, I am a very outgoing person, and I love to make friends in a new environment.
Experience
I have been a Chinese tutor for nearly 4 years. I love to teach young children to speak and to write in Chinese. While I attended college at Cal State Northridge, I start to tutor Chinese as a part-time job. My teaching method is that playing is learning. so I will play games and read stories to my students. As a result, my students love to attend Chinese class because learning Chinese is fun for them!
Approach
The first year in the U.S. was difficult to me. I was new to a living environment and a new culture. My fear of practising English with others was so strong that I could not make friends with others and have a very low self-esteem. While I realized that I need to make a change, I start to encourage myself to speak English whenever I can. Soon, I was able to overcome the fear of being a faliure because I have friends and family to be my support. Fear will not go away until I choose to overcome it
