Fun Facts

I am an avid writer. I absolutely enjoy reading critical essays as well as writing them. I've written multiple critical essays throughout my academic career. My favorite would have to be my existentialist analysis of The Matrix. I also read everything from Allen Ginsberg and Ernest Hemingway to Junot Diaz and Kurt Vonnegut. I love dystopian novels and contemporary urban novels, but I also enjoyed Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift tremendously. I often enjoy anything with a political or social undertone, which is why I enjoy various genres of music. I especially love conscious rap that speaks to political and social awareness and rock from the 1960s to the present (i.e. The Doors). I also listen to classical and contemporary composers such as Rachmaninoff and Beethoven. I am also a photographer and artist. In photography, I mainly work with portraiture, although I've done a lot of band or concert photography. When it comes to art, I love conceptual work. However, I'm also working on extending my knowledge of the human anatomy so that I'm better able to draw the human form.

About Me

I am currently a student in the honors program at Lehman College who is also in the English honors program. My major is English, specializing in literature. I hope to pursue a career in publishing after obtaining my BA while also working on a Master's in education. Throughout my academic career, I have tutored in many subjects including reading, French, and writing. Fellow students and friends have always asked me for help on essays and papers.

I enjoy helping people with their academic work even though my work experience recently hasn't been in that field. Some of my most enjoyable jobs were working in education focused fields with kids; I was an intern explainer at the New York Botanical Garden and and intern assistant counselor at Riverdale Neighborhood House. At the New York Botanical Garden, I taught scientific and cultural ideas through interactive activities. At Riverdale Neighborhood House, I helped with homework, conducted reading activities, and created art activities which reflected educational values. I worked alone, with peers, and with superiors. In elementary school, I tutored fellow students as well as younger students in reading-comprehension/new-york/bronx">reading comprehension, history, grammar, and writing. In high school, I tutored fellow French students. Now, in college, I often help fellow students with term papers and essays.

I believe that when bronx">tutoring or mentoring someone, it is important to learn how that person works. Some students are audio learners. Others are visual learners. Some students need to work on things hands on and others need repetition. It's extremely important to know the person's learning style and to teach according to it. I believe that adapting to that learning style will achieve the most favorable results. It is also important to be trusted by, respected by, and relatable to your student. I believe that a trusting and respectful relationship between a bronx">tutor and a student enables the best outcomes.
