Fun Facts

I am a transplant to Memphis, originally from a town in New Jersey right outside of New York City. Go Giants! I love learning, nature and my wonderful pup Trigg. If I am not reading, doing crossword puzzles or journaling then I am definitely in the great outdoors hiking, bike riding, or playing sports. I have passion for travel and exploring new places and cultures. I have been to more than ten different countries and am hoping to continue to add to that list in the future.

About Me

I have an Economics degree with a minor in Sociology from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. I moved to Memphis when I graduated from college to join the Teach for America corps. I have a passion for education and helping students to reach their full potential!

Experience

As a Teach for America corps member, I taught both 6th and 8th grade mathematics. Both years, my students grew more than 2 academic years. I have also had the opportunity to coach secondary teachers in a wide range of grade levels and subjects in schools all around Memphis. I have seen the power of individual instruction for students and want to continue helping students to feel confident and successful in school!

Approach

As a teacher, I was a master at the warm but strict approach to teaching (with some jokes thrown in too). I believe that learning should be challenging but fun. The productive struggle is vital to students taking ownership over their own learning and developing an enduring understanding of the skills. I know how important it is for students to know the "why" behind what they are learning, so I employ real world examples and problems to make learning meaningful.
