About Me
My name is Robert Daniels. I have recently graduated with a Bachelor's in English from DePaul University as Cum Laude with a 3.62 GPA. I live in Lincoln Park, and am currently an English Graduate Student at DePaul University. I am multiracial (African American, Hispanic, specifically Mexican and Puerto Rican), though the only language I am fluent in is English. However, I do believe my multiracial background has influenced my personality immensely. It has made me aware of varying perspectives. This awareness has always made me an intent listener, while creating an environment where attempting to understand both sides to the stories everyone has. Through seeing and trying to understand both sides of issues, it creates and imbues a manner to welcome the opinions of all.
My chicago">tutoring experience is completely classroom based. As an English student I did extensive peer to peer editing. Also, in my Winter quarter of school I attended Topics in Writing: The Artful Editor with Professor Chris Green. The subject was the art of how to edit not only essays, but also short stories, novels, and poetry. I received an "A". I left the course with an extensive knowledge and experience in editing not only my work, but also the work of my peers. In order to edit well, one must first have the ability to chicago">tutor others.
I believe chicago">tutoring is a give and take. I try to point out what the student is doing well and their strengths, before I point out weaknesses. Often times when students recognize what they do well, they are more cognizant of the areas where they may require additional tutelage. Then I point to and explain what they could do better and what routes they could take to improve the work they already have. In the end, it's about communication and respect for the work a student has already put into their assignment.
