I enjoy running and writing. I am a YoungLife leader at DePaul University and also help organize the Relay for Life through a club called "Colleges Against Cancer." I like to stay involved in organizations and hope to one day become a writer or editor.
About Me
I am a sophomore at DePaul University, from South Dakota. I am pursuing a double major in Creative Writing and Communications & Media. I hope to one day write, edit, or publish books because two of my passions are reading and writing. I also love working with children. Ever since I was old enough to babysit, I have been spending time with kids. I currently nanny part-time.
I peer tutored for two semesters in high school. The first semester, I tutored a geometry class, and the second semester, I helped special needs kids in their reading class. Both experiences were very rewarding. I also have a lot of babysitting and nannying experience, so I know how to work well with kids.
My chicago">tutoring approach depends strongly upon the situation and the students. I find that each student learns in a unique way. For example, in the geometry class, there were kids who wanted me to walk them through each problem; whereas some students just wanted a few explanations. In the class for special needs kids, the approach was much different. Just being there to show support and a desire to help was the biggest thing I could have done. I used pictures to try to get across to them, but because many were nonverbal, all efforts were not always successful. The approach can also be dependent upon the goals that the teacher and student have.
