Fun Facts

I grew up in a small town in NE Colorado, and although I’ve lived in some beautiful cities, I’m still a small-town girl at heart. For the past 25 years, I’ve been a part of another small town, Camas, WA, and where I have experienced many of the same things – seeing friends at the store; watching local children grow, and enjoying hometown festivals.

About Me

My goals are to engage and motivate my students so they can increase their self-esteem and grow academically. It is also important that each student set some goals so that he has an investment in the program

Experience

Teaching was my first love, although it took me almost ten years to get my first official job as a teacher – 2nd grade at Pueblo Pintado Boarding school, Eastern Navajo Agency, New Mexico.
I was a teacher in the state youth institutions and taught courses from elementary to high school. I've also been a counselor in a private agency and youth detention facility, and a social worker.
Since I retired I have taught at Sylvan; Club Z!; and privately. Have teacher certs from CA & WA, lifetime.

Approach

Although the student’s parents and teachers have goals for the student, I want to find out his outlook on the world: family, school, friends, himself. I will integrate that in with the academic plans. Listening to each student is very important, I want him to feel his opinions count. I explain to my students that the reason they are being tutored is to help them fill in some gaps; they are not stupid or dumb, they just have some holes in fence. Learning good study skills is also very important
