Fun Facts
My husband is a dolphin trainer. In elementary school, I spent my summers writing detective stories. If I could make a career out of going to school, I probably would. I took a teaching course in my M.A. program and loved it! I saved enough money to go to France in 10th grade by babysitting several times per week. My ENG 101 teacher at ASU suggested I could write for a living; she was right!
About Me
I am a freelance writer based in Chicago, as well as a contributing writer/editor at large for a nationwide technology publication. I am a recent graduate of DePaul University's M.A. in Writing and Publishing program. My undergraduate degree is in English with a minor in French from Arizona State University. In both cases, I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I am also soon to be a published author! I am writing a kids book (ages 9+) that will be published next spring. In total, I have five and a half years as a professional writer, with dozens of bylines published in nationally distributed magazines.
As an undergraduate, I tutored two children, ages 8 and 10, two to three times a week. My job was not only to help them through their homework, but to instill good time-management skills and a love for learning. I also took an intensive, 10-week graduate course at DePaul called Teaching Literature. In the course, I gained experience putting together lesson plans and thinking outside of the box when it comes to engaging students in academic pursuits.
While not all students will become writers, language and literacy skills are crucial to success in today's competitive workplace. Reading and writing can help students think critically about the world; this practice in analytical thinking will come in handy in all subject areas--not just the liberal arts. I believe a chicago">tutor should help build students' confidence while giving them tools to excel in all areas of their lives.
