About Me
My name is Nick, and I am about to be a junior at chicago">Loyola University Chicago. I am majoring in forensic science and minoring in philosophy. Presently my plan is to go into medicine. I have a wide variety of interests and activities, including music, cycling, and social dancing. My family consists of four people: myself, mom, dad, and my sister. We also have a dog. I went to Deerfield High School in Deerfield, Illinois. I was very active in music related activities during high school, including marching band, jazz band, and pit orchestra for the school musical. During the summers I work at a bike shop near where I live, and during the school year I work at the chicago">tutoring center at Loyola.
During high school I worked with the chicago">tutoring center and tutored in a couple of subjects, though I primarily tutored in mathematics, especially geometry. Then at Loyola I was hired by the the Center for chicago">Tutoring and Academic Excellence. At Loyola's chicago">tutoring center I have tutored in the subject areas of biology, chemistry, and philosophy. I have tutored in both group and one-on-one settings. I have also tutored students with learning disabilities.
I have taken different approaches to chicago">tutoring individuals or groups based on their needs. One approach I have taken is developing a series of practice problems to do. During the session, I would have the students attempt the problem themselves, then we would go over each problem and walk through it step by step. As we went, we would discuss errors made in the process, and how to avoid making those same errors in the future. Another method that I have taken is developing a small lesson. At the beginning of the session, I would go over material that had been covered since our last meeting, then at the end we would go over practice problems from the textbooks. We would solve these problems together step by step as an interactive process. Both approaches involved making sure there was time for students to ask any questions that were needed to better help them understand the material.
