Fun Facts
I love hiking and spending time with my dogs outdoors. I am very passionate about education and particularly teaching struggling readers. One thing that I especially love is teaching English to nonnative English speakers. In my free time I enjoy cooking and listening to music.
About Me
I was born and raised in Nashville, TN. I attended Middle Tennessee State University for my undergraduate degree in Social Work. I began teaching in 2012 and worked on my M.Ed. from Lipscomb University. Later I went on to pursue my Ed.S in Educational Leadership and an MSW. I now work as a Clinical Therapist at a nonprofit in Nashville.
Experience
I have over nine years of teaching and tutoring experience and four college degrees. I taught grades 1-3 and 5-8. In addition, I experience teaching Adult English Learners for Metro Nashville Public Schools and local nonprofits. I became an instructional coach for MNPS to support teachers in providing the best instruction to their EL students. I now am a Clinical Therapist at a local nonprofit. I work with unhoused young people in crisis. I love building people up and supporting them with goals.
Approach
As a teacher, I understand how difficult the general classroom setting can be for some learners. I understand that not all children grow and learn at the same pace or even the same way. I have a vast knowledge of how to differentiate instruction for students at all levels and backgrounds. I would love to bring my teaching experience to individualize tutoring for you or your child. I can meet the needs of struggling students while also bringing a positive, patient, and strength based approach.

English Tutoring
I have taught reading and writing for the past 4 and a half years to students in grades 2, 3, and 6. In college, I have taken Balanced Literacy Courses in addition to teaching English Learners. I have lead professional development to my school staff in the areas of reading and writing. I have taught and currently teach reading to students based on their instructional level individually and through small groups. I use the Balance Literacy approach in my reading and writing minilessons for whole group instruction and small group instruction.

I am trained to teach writing through the Thinking Maps Framework of Write From the Beginning. I also use the 6 Traits Framework in my instruction. I have a great deal of experience of teaching writing to students in preparation to State Standardized Writing assessments. This includes short response to text and long response to text through essay format.
Elementary Math Tutoring
I have experience teaching the Common Core Math standards in grade 2 and the Tennessee State Standards in grade 3.
Science Tutoring
I have experience in teaching the Tennessee State Science standards to students in grades 2 and 3.
Social Studies Tutoring
I have experience in teaching the Tennessee Social Studies Standards in grades 2 and 3.
Study Skills Tutoring
Throughout my 4 and a half years of classroom teaching experience, I have given both formative and summative tests and the school, district, and state levels. I have taught many students smart test taking strategies to prepare them for these assessments.
Praxis Tutoring
I have taken and passed all Praxis assessments required of me to have my K-6 Teaching License and ESL Endorsement.
