Fun Facts

I have a pug-pomeranian named Zeus who is the love of my life! I enjoy taking epic road trips across the US, camping, playing guitar, snowboarding, and eating lots of vegan food. I just moved to Portland, OR after 13 years in Pittsburgh, PA, and I am absolutely loving it here! My life goal is to visit all US National Parks!

About Me

I am a full-time computer programming tutor, teaching Java, Object-Oriented Programming, PHP, SQL, HTML, Javascript, and Visual Basic. I hold a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Information Science from the pittsburgh">University of Pittsburgh-main campus. I have nearly 6 years of professional experience working as a computer programmer and 3 solid years of tutoring experience.

Experience

The first student I taught was in October 2012 while I was still employed by UPitt, School of Nursing- Center for Research & Evaluation, developing web and desktop applications to collect, manage, and transform research data, and working on obtaining my Master's degree. However, I have been tutoring full-time for 3 years. I have taught thousands of students, both in person and online. My previous students have praised me for being an excellent programmer, patient, reliable, and supportive.

Approach

I started learning procedural programming when I was in high school, so I had some trouble adapting to object-oriented programming when I went to college. It just didn't click for me at first so I understand what it's like to be in a student's shoes. I love using drawings to illustrate object-oriented programming. I always tell my students that the most important skill to have as a programmer is the ability to find what you need (forums, API, etc). Always use the resources available to you!
