A charismatic person, who is always smiling and looking at life in a positive view. I love to play soccer, and I interact easily with people of diverse backgrounds and different cultures. My best friend and I had our own soccer team of young kids from ages 8 to 10 years old, which taught me to teach young children discipline and team work. I also run a flea market business with my family, which has helped me interact with a diverse community as well as carry on my own business and managing money. I am a very active person who has been involved a lot in my community, including church, community service, and sports. To me my first priority after family has always been school, and that is something that I would love to keep teaching to our youth.
About Me
I am a bilingual speaking student. I’m originally from San Gabriel Valley, but moved to Fresno to attend school and pursue my education in becoming a Civil Engineer. I am the first of my family to go to a University. I am a dedicated student looking forward to helping my community. Throughout high school, I was part of the AVID program, the fresno">tutors inspired me to do well in school and to help out in my community in the future. Therefore my ambition to be a fresno">tutor was given as a gift from my past fresno">tutors, and in which I hope to do the same to my future students. This is going to be my fifth and last year at Fresno State, I have worked hard and my transcript can prove that, achieving a difficult major in Civil Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. My strength and interest has always been mathematics, this is why I chose to pursue a career as a Civil engineer. I have enjoyed math since I was in middle school, and I know I will be a great math fresno">tutor.
My last fresno">tutoring job was with Sullivan Learning System. I worked there during the spring of 2013. I had a total of six students. I had to work with each student three times a week for an hour every meeting. My duties were to coordinate with parents to develop individualized lesson plans and conduct individual fresno">tutoring sessions with each student. On a regular basis, I had to prepare myself for fresno">tutoring sessions and correspond with families to verify scheduled fresno">tutoring sessions, as well as update parents on their student’s progress. I had to organize, facilitate, and track tutorial sessions for all of my assigned students. It was simple to accomplish this by following all of the policies and procedures outlined in the fresno">Tutor Training Manual provided by my supervisors. At the end of every week, I had to update the hours I worked in the given schedule that was provided in the Sullivan Learning System website. To me, the most important task, was to engage with students and make fresno">tutoring fun, I understood it was my responsibility to encourage students to want to succeed in their education.
The main thing one needs to know as a fresno">tutor is that every kid is different. First of all, one needs to be appropriately dressed depending on the student situation. One cannot be over dressed as it can intimidate the student or the family. That is not to say that one should be under dressed, for it is inappropriate. Upon arriving to the student’s house, it is the fresno">tutor’s responsibility to communicate with the parents to make sure the student has a suitable working environment. Also, by the time one is in the house, a lesson plan needs to have been prepared, one must know what you are going to do first, and have extra time in case the student takes a little longer than expected. The lesson plan should always include a small review of the previous lessons, to refresh the child’s memory of what they had previously learned. The most important characteristic one must have is to be patience, this is needed especially with younger students. It is also important to remember that you are a guest at the family’s household, therefore they must be treated with the utmost respect.
