Fun Facts
I have been playing the game "Words with Friends" every day with the same exact person for over 4 years now, and have only lost 5 times! The person I play against is my old English Teacher/Academic Decathlon Coach, whom I absolutely love to death. In my free time, I enjoy playing volleyball, hanging out with friends, engaging in conversation, or trying new things!
About Me
I am currently a 3rd year at the University of California, San Diego, where I work as a College Ambassador, a mentor/tutor at the campus wide Writing Center, and a Research Assistant for a Language Development and Remediation in Children Lab. I would consider myself to be a very outgoing, extroverted person. I am fascinated with the mind and how people interact, and thus chose to major in psychology. I hope to one day earn my Ph.D in psychology, teach at a college, and own my own practice.
In the past, I have worked as a Chemistry tutor for my high school and a Reading/Writing/Math tutor for middle school children. I currently work as a Writing Mentor at the UC San Diego Campus Wide Writing Center. I enjoy working with students of all ages, and have worked both within schools and private residences.
Regardless of the subject, the very first thing I do when tutoring or mentoring is ask the student questions. I do this for two reasons: to get a sense of how well the student knows the subject, and to facilitate the student's thoughts. I continue this technique throughout the tutoring session. Although I do believe that the tutor should help the student learn anything he/she is struggling with, I do NOT believe that giving the student all the answers helps the learning process. Therefore, even after teaching a concept, I like to ask the student to explain it back to me. I find that this helps the student develop a better understanding.
