Fun Facts
I am super passionate about the environment and the beautiful world that we live in. I love to ski, hike, and do any outdoor activity. I think environmental education is extremely important, especially for children, so that they can save the world one day. I am the youngest of five kids, so I am used to working through chaos and noise!
About Me
I am currently a sophomore at Seattle University. I am studying Civil Engineering with an environmental specialization and am also a part of the core honors program. I hope to join the Peace Corps when I graduate and use my education in engineering to help folks in less developed countries. I absolutely love math and science, especially when I get to help people understand it as well.
Experience
My senior year of high school I worked weekly with two students, a fifth and second grader, tutoring them in math. I also spent my first year of college working at a local elementary school. I spent a few hours a week in a second grade classroom, assisting students who struggled in math. I also ran a math/science based after school program for third and fifth graders!
Approach
I have never done well learning in the traditional sense. I find it very hard to listen to a teacher talk and then apply that knowledge. I find hands-on applied learning to be the most effective way for many students like myself to learn. It is important to keep things exciting and different while learning tough subjects in order to keep focus, and to create activities that allow students to apply their knowledge in various formats.
