Fun Facts
One fun thing about me is that people often can not guess my age! Because of my overzealous spirit and fun relatable conversations, my students and their parents often ascribe me to a generation younger than I am. I absolutely love, love, love music! Most days you won't be able to find me without headphones listening to something uplifting or inspirational.
About Me
I am a senior Music Education major at Northeastern Illinois University. One of my goals is to get on the Dean's List, but with a 3.5 gpa, I'm still proud of the things I have accomplished so far in school. I intend on starting a music school for under privileged youth, and allow space for community members to be part of.
Experience
I've studied Trumpet, Piano and Voice academically and have performed for over 10 years. Teaching and mentor students of all ages is my passion. I was the Director of Music for one of Chicago's largest Salvation Army Bands. Initially, I volunteered teaching, but was quickly hired on after demonstrating genuine compassion and dedication to the children. The Center consisted of after school music programs with over 80 students playing a variety of instruments; from violins to Caribbean Steel Pans.
Approach
Academic success is a goal I strive for with my students. I use several different methods in the best interest of the student. The Orff Method; which incorporates learning through some singing, dancing, acting and the use of percussive instruments like xylophones. The Suzuki method; first exposes the student to classical recordings then, will eventually have the student learn them by ear without the use of printed music.
