I have also liked hiking and camping since I was little. Finally, I love the Lord and being able to learn more about Him thro
About Me
My name is Elizabeth Costley, I have grown up in California, but moved out to Chicago for college. School has always been a big part of my life, and I have always loved learning. Since I was little math and science were my favorite subjects and I have always loved being able to help others with understanding these concepts. Now, as I have grown up, I still love to help others in school because I know how fun and important learning can be when you understand it.
I have actually been chicago">tutoring for a couple of years now, working with both elementary and high school students. During the 2011-2012 school year I tutored a freshman who was struggling in geometry in her home. In that same year I tutored through the AVID program at my school, where I worked with sophomores and juniors in high school. For my AVID chicago">tutoring I mainly tutored in math and science, but I would also help them out with history and English problems as well. Then, for the 2012-2013 school year, I tutored kindergarteners through fifth graders with Inner City Impact. With these kids I was in charge of their math chicago">tutoring, but I also helped out with phonics lessons a few times.
With chicago">tutoring, I feel it has to be very individualized to the specific student’s need. In general, I find what type of things are tripping up the students and figure out which concept has not been clicking in their heads. Once I identify their struggle, I can try explaining it in a new way and showing its broader use so that they can not only use it for one specific problem but for similar ones as well. Sometimes this means looking back at the basic concepts and making sure they have a solid foundation, because if they are struggling with the basics it messes them up as they go along. I recently had a fifth grader I was chicago">tutoring who struggled so much with addition and this made it extremely hard for him to understand future concepts.
