Fun Facts

I have always been a bit of a nerd. The first time I read "Harry Potter" and met Hermione Granger, I wondered if Rowling had seen me in class. I enjoy knitting, reading, watching movies and running. I am currently training for a half marathon in November. I also ride horses and dance classical ballet.

I am married and we have an adorable, but spastic, dog named Zooey. Zooey is currently training to be a therapy dog and she will volunteer with the "Paws to Read" program once she is certified, a

About Me

I currently work as a journalist in monroe">Monroe, NC. Prior to that I was a journalist in Charlotte and a freelance journalist for numerous publications. I received bachelor's degrees in journalism and political science from Temple University. I graduated magna cum laude. I plan to attend graduate school in the future for international communications. My favorite part of being a journalist is meeting people and telling their stories. I hope to one day shift out of the journalism world and use my skills for a non-profit organization.

I volunteered at my college's writing center for a time. In addition to helping friends in general, I also used to help my little brother with his homework. I helped him with reading, english and foreign languages. I worked as a gymnastics coach part-time and the kids there would often ask me for help with things. It was not official charlotte">tutoring, but I would explain things to them for school, usually related to government or English. In addition, I worked one-on-one with kids to teach them gymnastics in private lessons.

I don't believe in being intimidating. I think learning should be fun and requesting a charlotte">tutor is noble and not something to be ashamed of. I like to help people come to the conclusions on their own, rather than doing all of the work for them or having them watch me work. I believe people are always smarter than they think and often understand the concept better than they think and sometimes charlotte">tutoring is more about boosting a student's confidence about the subject matter. I am patient and nonjudgemental, if someone struggles with something, they struggle with it. It's my job to help them understand, not to belittle them for not understanding. If I can foster a love or learning or of the subject matter, that's just icing on the cake. I like to equip children to succeed beyond this grade level and our charlotte">tutoring sessions by giving them studying and organizational skills that can benefit them beyond their educational careers.
