Fun Facts

I am a surfer and love everything that has to do with the ocean, which led me to marine science. I enjoy building things and creating in general. Making art, building furniture, and making skim boards. One of my favorite aspects of marine science is we spend a lot of time at sea, and when things break you have to fix them! I love cooking, writing, and speaking Spanish.

About Me

I am an early career marine scientist studying at the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies at San Francisco State University. I am currently writing my thesis and completed my coursework with a 3.93 GPA. My eventual goal is to end up working with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration in fisheries oceanography, or something similar in the non-profit realm, where applied science meets policy.

Experience

Throughout my academic career I have finished within the top 5 within my class due to hard work and determination. This success was also due to working with my colleagues in study groups where we taught each other the material. This led to tutoring opportunities where I facilitated my students to success in their endeavors. Teaching demonstrates true mastery of a subject, so I gained just as much success in teaching. It is truly enjoyable and rewarding seeing someone else succeed!

Approach

In my child development course I researched Dr. Howard Gardner’s multiple-intelligences theory. This awakened me to avenues of learning outside traditional reading, writing, and arithmetic. I personally am a spatial learner and diagram problems in a visual manner to solve them. There are eight different intelligences including auditory, interpersonal, kinetic, and naturalist learning. There are tests available to test your strengths and learning style, so that we can play to them!
