Fun Facts
I love the outdoors. I especially enjoy camping, hiking, and hunting. I also am a sports enthusiast. In particular, my favorite sports are baseball, soccer, and basketball. One unique thing about me is that I was born with an eye disease called glaucoma. Five surgeries were needed to help save my eyesight. Today, I need glasses only to drive and sometimes in school.
About Me
I am a recent college graduate now looking forward to graduate school at UTSA. Eventually, I hope to go to medical school in order to become an ophthalmologist. I am the third of four children and the second of the three sons. Now, I am married and have one child. My family give me the greatest happiness I know.
I have tutored as a volunteer or for profit students from 4th grade to college students. I was a volunteer at an elementary summer school prior to my senior year in high school and assisted 4th-6th grade students in reading and math. As a freshman in college I volunteered at a youth detention facility as a math tutor for 7th and 8th graders. As a freshman, I also tutored math privately to four students ranging in grade level from 5th to 10th grade. During my junior and senior years of college, I worked as a teaching assitant and tutor in economics.
I find the key to tutoring is to treat each student as an individual with individual challanges that need an individual approach. Each student is unique, and, as a tutor, I need to adapt to his/her needs. Listening is critical. I prefer to allow the student to do most of the talking. I find that oftentimes this enables the students to overcome many of their roadblocks and allows me to better understand the challenge.
