About Me
I am currently in the process of applying to medical school and am working on my Biology degree from MSU Denver. I hold a previous Bachelor's Degree from UC Berkeley in Political Economy. I recently took the MCAT, for which I studied for the last 6 months, thoroughly solidifying my knowledge of hard sciences. I am passionate about imparting the knowledge that I have gained through my studies and life experience. I feel that denver">tutoring is extremely rewarding for both parties involved, since the student gains new knowledge and the denver">tutor has the opportunity to solidify what he or she already knows.
While living in Brazil, I was an English language denver">tutor for professionals in business and the tourism industry. In Denver, I have worked as a Portuguese denver">tutor. In both instances, I prepared my students not only in the language (grammar and vocabulary), but also culturally, as some of my students were preparing to live or study abroad.
I like to start by identifying the student's strengths and weaknesses. In a language denver">tutoring setting, I can identify these by a quick conversation with the student; for sciences, a diagnostic quiz can show what the student's level of understanding is. By knowing what the student's weak areas are, I can then focus on those areas to improve the student's knowledge and class performance. By knowing the student's strengths, I know what subjects to hit upon occasionally, in order to give the student positive reinforcement, which I believe is extremely important as a motivating factor. For improvement in weak areas, I use a combination of exercises and mini-lectures, where the student is encouraged to contribute any knowledge that he or she may have about the subject in question.
