Fun Facts

Most people notice that I am enthusiastic about life and love to learn. For fun, I love to run, hike, camp, spend time with friends and family, and explore the city. I hope that I get the chance to see as much of the world as possible.

About Me

I currently teach 4th grade at a charter school network in New York City. I got my Bachelor degree in Spanish and English. I also finished my Masters degree in Elementary Education. I spent the last seven years or so in Los Angeles and only recently moved to New York in July.

Experience

My education background is varied. I taught Kindergarten for four years, seventh grade English and Science for one year, and currently re-located taking a job as a 4th grade teacher in New York.

Approach

As an educator, I believe all children can be successful. I work every day to be flexible and try new strategies to help them understand new concepts. We celebrate their accomplishments and growth. I care a lot about my students and spend a time getting to know them and their families. I believe strong relationships and a strong support team can be immensely transformative for a child’s education.

English Tutoring

English was one of my majors in undergrad. I took classes is American and British Literature, Poetry, Harlem Renaissance, Gender and Literature, and a few other more specialized English classes. Additionally, I love to read. Literacy can open up opportunities for people. Reading and comprehending is important for continued learning in life. It is how we access information. I will work hard with any student I have to help them become stronger readers.

Spanish Tutoring

I took Spanish classes throughout high school and college. I studied abroad in Spain for five months. I took conversational/language classes, as well as reading (Spanish literature/politics) and writing in Spanish. I consider myself proficient. I carry conversations with Spanish-speaking parents on a daily basis. Additionally, I was able to use the language throughout my entire teaching career as half of my students spoke Spanish at home and with their families.

Writing Tutoring

As an English major, I wrote critically in every class I took. I have been teaching writing for about two years. My own experience learning has made me a stronger writer. I had several teachers who were pivotal in my learning how to write. They helped simplify the process of writing in a clear, concise and complete way.

Homework Coach Tutoring

This is what I have helped with the most in my tutoring experience. I worked with students to help with homework, as well as extra reading/phonics and math skills.

Math Tutoring

Most of my math experience has been in my current job. The school at which I'm teaching has a really unique way of presenting math content. We explore math concepts and number stories allowing kids to come up with strategies of their own and conjectures based on patterns in math, before we directly teach a concept. This way they don't get caught up in rules and procedures, but rather have a deep understanding of foundational math concepts.
