About Me
I recently graduated (May 2013) from the University of Colorado Denver with a degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences and I have my elementary teaching license. I am a Colorado native and attended public schools in Jefferson county through high school. Currently, I am a preschool teacher, hoping to find a position teaching first or second grade. Teaching is my absolute passion and I am confident that it is my calling.
For the 2012/2013 school year, I was an intern in a first grade classroom where I planned and taught whole group lessons as well as very many homogenous and heterogeneously mixed small group lessons especially in subjects such as reading and math. I was also employed at the University of Colorado Denver as a Peer Mentor Leader where I mentored first year students by teaching them positive study habits, encouraging them to get involved on campus, and by monitoring their progression into college life.
I believe that the absolute first approach when mentoring or denver">tutoring a student is to build a positive, trusting, and strong relationship. This should be done by asking questions, finding things in common, and also by celebrating differences. After a strong bond has been established, I believe it is crucial to set long term as well as short term goals that the student hopes to accomplish. These goals should be referred to often as well as properly monitored. The next step would be to find multiple ways to teach or explain a lesson. It is proven that all students learn differently, so by providing multiple approaches, the denver">tutor and the student can identify how he/she learns best.
