I studied to become both a mathematician and an interior designer in college, but changed my mind and became a social scientist instead!
About Me
I am a doctoral student at Duke, living in the Bay Area for my dissertation research. My ultimate goal is to become a professor! I will teach a course at Duke next year about the role of the Internet in some religions.
Experience
I have been tutoring since I was in high school. My students have ranged from kindergartners to college students, and most of them still keep in touch. I love that one moment of clarity they experience when I've finally found the way to explain the material that makes sense to them, and it's why I never get tired of the job.
Approach
I like to pinpoint my student's strengths and weaknesses in the first session so that I can focus on their learning style. I make sure I'm familiar and confident enough with the material I'm teaching so that I can manipulate the ways I explain it. I have enough experience to be familiar with enough examples to accompany a theoretical explanation. I've cut pieces of paper to teach geometry, lined up erasers for an algebra lesson, and sketched an entire classroom to demonstrate probability.
