About Me
I did my undergrad at University of Michigan in English, Creative Writing, and History, and I just moved to Detroit to start my Master's degree in Library and Information Science. I also aim to get a Graduate Certificate in Public Library Services to Children and Young Adults because I want to be a Teen Librarian.
I have volunteered for over a year with 826michigan, a non-profit that focuses majorly on creative writing (but also other areas). I held the Workshops Intern position for eight months in which I worked students of all ages and reading/writing levels. In my time there, I encouraged students to get excited and engaged with writing in a variety of workshop settings. I was also a co-facilitator of a teen writing workshop in which I offered constructive criticism on student writing. I helped to copyedit student works that would later appear in small publications.
I want to get students excited so they do not feel that it's a chore to do schoolwork. It is my aim aim to make learning a joy through fun activities or writing prompts that spice up every day education. I put emphasis on first getting ideas out on paper and then going back to refine spelling, grammar, pacing, etc. I believe in taking short study breaks every so often, even if that just means getting up and walking in a few circles or doing some jumping jacks. I also look forward to helping student develop organizational skills because I have my planner's system down to a science!
