About Me
I am a junior journalism and English double-major at SMU. I am a Dallas native, who graduated from W.T. White high school in 2011. I have a huge passion for sports and for writing. My dream is to become a sports columnist and maybe do some radio work.
I have been working at UTD Callier center for the hearing impaired for two years now. I have worked with children ages 3-6, but would like to work with older kids.
While in high school, I was involved in the school's mentoring program- I mentored/tutored freshman and sophomores for two years.
I like to identify the students strengths and design assignments that provide a challenge but that are not impossible. I feel like experiencing a setback in something that is already challenging can be devastating. By allowing for small success, I believe it paves the way for much bigger ones.
Finding the students voice, in his/her writing is important. It isn't something to be forced, but helping the student recognize what it feels like to write in that voice is important.
Ultimately, I want the student to succeed in the subject and maybe discover the same love of writing that I have.
