Fun Facts

I am an avid soccer fan and dancer. I love to incorporate my hobbies into my washington-dc">tutoring. I have always found that students are more interested if you can make the subject matter relevant to their lives. I have grown up traveling to India, which has awarded me a high level of cultural awareness and adaptability.

About Me

I am currently a graduate student at the School of International Service at American University. I graduated this past spring from boston-university">Boston University with a Masters and Bachelors of Arts in Political Science. I only have classes in the evenings, three days a week, so my washington-dc">tutoring availability is very flexible. I am a Pickering Fellow with the Department of State, which means that upon completion of my Masters degree I will begin working as a Foreign Service Officer. I have passed both the written and oral Foreign Service exams.

I was a lead washington-dc">tutor with the boston-university">Boston University Initiative for Literacy Development. As a lead washington-dc">tutor, I managed the 16 other washington-dc">tutors that worked at Roxbury Elementary School in Dorchester, Massachusetts. I was responsible for developing lesson plans, holding monthly washington-dc">tutoring workshops, and the students that I personally tutored in my assigned classroom. In this capacity I tutored students in Kindergarden through 5th grade. I also assisted with an after school program aimed at improving adult literacy, in which I worked with many of my students' parents.

I believe that as a washington-dc">tutor I am taking it upon myself to ensure that my student succeeds. I do not see success as just a grade, although good grades would certainly be one of the things we worked for. Instead, I see success as much broader. I want my students to gain confidence in their ability to work hard and manage their time effectively. Ideally, if I have done my job well, my students should be in a place where they are ready to become a washington-dc">tutor to their peers. I have found that my approach and method changes drastically depending on the student. What kind of learner are they? If they are visual, I will make sure to have visual aids ready to go. If they are more auditory, I will make sure that I have a strong grasp on the subject area they need help with. If they are hands-on, participatory learners, I will think of innovative ways that we can move and actively engage the material we are cove
