I am currently in the beginning stages of starting an event planning and coordinating business. I decided to combine all of the things I love and am good at and try to make a career out of it. I am from Trinidad and Tobago and enjoy playing the steel pan, the national instrument, in my spare time.

About Me

I have always found joy in helping others reach their true potential. In elementary school, my teachers used to write "too helpful" in the comments section on my report card, and gladly, that spirit has never left me. I have a genuine interest in every student I work with and encourage them to accept nothing but the best from themselves and others. I am currently pursuing a business finance degree with a minor in small business management.

Experience

I began tutoring at CAFE, a weekend program in Maryland, when I was in middle school and continued through high school. During my junior and senior years in high school, I was a volunteer tutor at an after school program for children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, which was one of the most fulfilling experiences thus far. In more recent years, I worked as a long term tutor for 4 families in the area with students ranging in age from pre school to high school.

Approach

If I did not like and respect my instructors to a certain degree, it was very difficult for me to feel safe enough to ask questions and make mistakes. Because of this, I make sure to build rapport, exercise patience, figure out the learning style, and use positive reinforcement with every student I work with to ensure that they feel comfortable enough to make mistakes while remaining confident in their abilities.
