Fun Facts

I love to sing. I sing all the time--whether it's humming quietly during my shifts at Starbucks (oh hey, I am a barista!) or whether I am belting it out at home while my roommate is elsewhere. I play the guitar but not so well. Poetry is my favorite--reading it, writing it, whichever. Several friends that I went to college with still keep in contact with me and we actually sometimes get together and hold writers workshops. A more whimsical fun fact about me would be that I signed my name on Abbe

About Me

I decided in high school that I would be an English Major, whether or not it entailed a high paying job. I also decided I would write--professionally or just for mere leisure. I then graduated from Fresno State with my degree in English as well as achieving a minor in Creative Writing. During college I did two separate study abroad programs, which then fueled my desire to travel. I went and studied art in Italy, and then took a culture writing class in London. I began college a bit reserved and quiet as well as underwhelmed, but over the years I have become quite fearless and ambitious; I can thank my college experiences for this. I also have acquired a love for learning--not only learning from books and texts, but from cultures and people. Soon I will be going abroad to teach English as a foreign language through a program called Language Corps.

I have not had any professional fresno">tutoring experience, but I have tutored friends/ family members, or rather, have helped them approach their difficulties with school. I often would help write papers, giving advice from my own personal experiences on how to structure a paper or maintain a strong thesis. I did teach Sunday school at my local church for a couple years, the students ranging in ages from 2 to 11. I am also getting involved with a program that will instruct me to teach small children how to speak the English Language. I will be a part of this program next year in Barcelona, Spain, but the instruction process has already begun.

I have learned that it's good to relate to the person that is asking you for help. So my first approach is to be friendly, open and kind. It is important to make the person feel comfortable. I then try to make relevant several different aspects and perspectives in approaching the problem the person is facing with their assignment. My goal is not only to help the person get through their difficulties with their work, but to help them understand that they will get through it eventually,,
