I love sports. i play every intramural I can at school. I was an all-state diver in high school. I also have been on three missions trips, two to Mexico and one to Nicaragua, and I plan on going to another in the spring of 2014. I hold my faith in Christ very dear to my heart.

About Me

My name is Kevin Flathers. I am a sophomore, mechanical engineer at Lipscomb University. I am from Maine and have lived there since the second grade. I love math and science. Numbers and how they can work just amaze me. Then being able to apply those numbers to real life situations through sciences like physics is the most incredible thing. In my free time I enjoy being with friends and family, playing with sports, and learning about computer software as well as figuring out as much as i can about Android phones.

I love helping others succeed, and that's why nashville">tutoring, whether for a fellow classmate or for a struggling student in a lower grade, has been an enjoyable experience all my life. In all my classes, whether college or high school, I have always been eager to help others learn the information efficiently and effectively. Senior year of my high school career I tutored a freshman twice a week in Spanish. Also, though this wasn't for academics, I mentored a sixteen-year-old boy who was on prison probation. I am also currently involved in an on-campus nashville">tutoring for students struggling in math and physics. So, even though most of my "nashville">tutoring" experience wasn't through an organization or for pay, I have always helped others learn.

The first step is to see what part of the subject the student is struggling in. Take Algebra I for example. If the student is having a hard time understanding variables then I would try a visual demonstration to try to help them understand the basic concept. Then I would have them read the book to see what it says about variables. Next, I would have the student explain to me what the book is saying with the information that he had just learned from the demonstration. Lastly, I would have him practice many problems that dealt with the area he was struggling in. Practice truly does make perfect and to do well where you are struggling, especially in math, there is no better remedy than lots of practice.
