Fun Facts

I absolutely love learning about language and cultures, and am currently attempting (very slowly) to learn Korean. My friends and I enjoy traveling together- we recently drove 14 hours to see our favorite K-Pop group, BTS! I enjoy cosplaying, knitting, watching movies, and martial arts. I was born near Chicago, IL but was raised in Georgia, so I have an interesting mix of tastes. I am a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and have played the clarinet for over 15 years.

About Me

I love every aspect of the English language and want to share that love with others. My love for reading and writing did not flourish until I got to college, where I was properly taught. I want others to get the same education that I got in college, but much sooner than I did. I am proficient in many academic subjects because I just love learning! I have a Bachelor's Degree in English and want to pursue my Master's Degree within the next year.

Experience

I have tutored students of different levels since I was in middle school. Most of my tutoring experience occurred while I was in college, when I tutored multiple local students. I have had multiple students from my Tae Kwon Do class ask me to tutor them throughout the years because they already know me. I have even taught English in Suwon, Korea.

Approach

I have found that the best tutoring occurs when the tutor makes the student feel that asking questions is not a hindrance. Too many times, I've seen people afraid to ask questions because they think that it makes them seem "dumb" for not understanding. The student must understand the basics before they can understand overarching ideas. Therefore, I firmly believe that patience and realistic explanations are the keys to successful learning. I tailor my teaching style to suit each student.

English Tutoring

As an English major, I was required to take at least three courses that dealt strictly with the English language. The most useful of these classes was Advanced Grammar, which taught me the most intricate details of correct grammar.

Graduate Level Writing Tutoring

Besides the constant writing that comes with majoring in English, my research paper that I submitted for my candidacy to graduate received an award and was published in a special collection of student works for excellency in research and writing.

History Tutoring

I actually entered college with the intention of majoring in history because of my fascination with the subject, but I switched my focus to English. I took multiple history classes in college because I was still so interested in it.

Literature Tutoring

Literature and its analysis is actually my specialty. It is my favorite aspect of English. My senior research paper and its multiple accolades are evidence of this fact.

Music Theory Tutoring

I took multiple music classes in college with the intention of minoring in music. As a musician, I wanted to understand the more technical aspects of music and not just its performance. I have studied music history, music literature and language, and music theory.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

Reading comprehension is, in my opinion, one of the hardest aspects of English for most students. It is also one of the most heavily-tested aspects of English on many tests. This is a topic that I have studied extensively and have used on countless assignments.

Writing Tutoring

I have written more essays and research papers than I care to recall, so I have a great deal of experience in writing. Besides the sheer amount that I have had to write throughout my academic career, I am very persistent in receiving top grades for my writing.

Writing Advance Tutoring

My writings were consistently picked as the best submissions in all of my classes, whether they were English classes or not. I have taken classes in writing, ranging from Journalism to poetry, so I have a broad knowledge of writing styles.

AP English Tutoring

I took the AP English class that my high school offered, so I have a great deal of knowledge about the expectations for this course. It is indeed a predictor of college-style English classes, which I have studied extensively.

AP History Tutoring

I also took AP US History in high school, and it was one of my favorite classes in all of my education. It is great because it allows students to study more than just names and dates. I received an excellent score on my AP exam and continued to take history classes in college.

Math Tutoring

I have always had an affinity for math. I even took more than the required amount of math in high school and managed to skip to a higher level of math in my senior year. My score in Calculus was great enough that I did not have to take a math class in college.

Pre Algebra Tutoring

Algebra is one of my strengths in math. I managed to pass Algebra I while I was still in middle school.

Algebra Tutoring

I began studying Pre-Algebra while I was in the seventh grade and passed Algebra in the eighth grade. It remains as my greatest strength in math.

General Music Tutoring

Besides being a musician, I have taken general music classes in college. Music History and the Literature/Language of Music were two of my best classes.

Music Theory Tutoring

I took Music Theory I and II while I was a junior in college. We were required to compose a piece of music at the end of both classes to prove our competency.
