About Me
I graduated with a B.S. in Biology from marietta-college">Marietta College in 2004. I graduated with a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Miami University in 2012, my dissertation research focused on how bacteria move and attach to hosts to cause disease.
My columbus">tutoring experience started begun in college, aiding students enrolled in Chemistry and Biology courses. I have 8 years of teaching experience at the college-level as a teaching assistant and instructor, both roles required me to columbus">tutor students needing additional instruction during office hours. During college breaks I worked in the education department of a science museum, giving me experience teaching middle school and high students in a variety of science topics.
My approach in columbus">tutoring is to emphasize the importance of learning about scientific topics, even if a student will "never use" the information in their future career. In my experience, students convince themselves that science is hard, and can never overcome the mental blocks to succeed. I like to give students real-world examples of topics they are covering in classes so that they can understand the impact of science on their everyday lives. Emphasizing the real-world aspect of what they are learning will foster discussion of scientific topics, that will allow the students to improve their understanding of the course material.
