I have worked with a diverse array of elementary students; those with disabilities and emotional problems. I am able to shape the chicago">tutoring plan to each individual child's needs to allow for maximum student growth. With 3 years of chicago">tutoring experience, I have a wealth of resources/strategies on how to best keep children engaged and motivated during the learning process.
For the last 2 years I managed a reading center at an urban, Title I school in San Francisco that provides one-on-one reading chicago">tutoring to forty struggling readers.I collaborated with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure students are making progress in reading. I also trained and supported forty community volunteers in their role as reading chicago">tutor. Throughout this position, I personally tutored numerous students with learning disabilities and social/emotional challenges.
The year prior. I provided (and planned) one-on-one English literacy chicago">tutoring to 7 elementary school children. I supervised a second grade classroom of 25 students for an after school program stressing math, literacy enrichment, and service learning. I also received ongoing training on topics including adolescent health and wellness, progressive discipline and classroom management, and language arts development.
I believe in the "I do, we do, you do" teaching model. This means that when introducing a new skill, I explain the idea first. Then, the student and I work together, "practicing" the new skill. Lastly, when the child is ready, they attempt to complete the skill independently, while I closely monitor progress. I also believe in introducing new activities throughout sessions to help with child engagement. I have a wide range of literacy activities to use.
