Fun Facts

I recently completed my fourth summer internship at the University of Utah. I performed cancer research in the Schiffman Laboratory at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. I am currently volunteering in the lab to finish up my project.

I love music! I play the guitar with a group of similar enthusiasts and am currently trying to learn how to play the piano.

About Me

I recently graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Biological Engineering. I was a student-athlete while there. I ran for the track team as a decathlete. I recently switched career goals after several positive health/medical experiences this summer. I am currently a fourth year medical student at the University of Utah.

I have been tutored in several subjects since I missed school extensively for travel to athletic competitions and conferences to present research. Some of the tutors were helpful and others were not. The best tutors were those that demonstrated patience and an understanding of my misconceptions.

I have also tutored a student before in Physics. It was a referral from a coach and the young lady needed help with optics in her AP Physics class. We met at her house and would go over her homework.
Lastly, I was a teaching assistant (TA) for one of my engineering classes. I taught the Laboratory portion of the class, graded homework and assisted students with homework and test preparation.

My approach to tutoring is based on the positive experiences I had while learning and being tutored. Tutors must be engaging and enthusiastic about the subject material. Some students may be shy or reserved about their difficulty grasping or mastering a concept or formula. An engaging teacher will not only create a comfortable environment to learn but also help the student grasp foreign or difficult concepts. Second, tutors should have a clear objective for the subject being taught. Third, tutors must be patient and realize that some students require additional repetition and tactics to learn.
