About Me
My name is Kriti Sood and I am a Miami Commitment Program student. I am a sophomore studying Microbiology and Immunology with a minor in chemistry at the miami">University of Miami. I was born in India and even though i have been living in the United States for more than 15 years, i stay very close to my roots and culture. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
I have been miami">tutoring a wide range of grade levels for several years. I have taught middle school students from grades 6-8 in mathematics, science, and language arts for about 3 years. I worked in Barnyard Community Center for the America Reads Program last year. At the community center i taught phonics and reading to elementary school children and helped out helping students complete their homework in various subjects. I was president of Phi Beta Chi (science honor society) and was a member in Mu Alpha Theta (math honor society) and i have peer tutored in the respective subjects for high school students. Also, I am currently a biology workshop leader for freshman students at the miami">University of Miami. As a biology workshop leader, i miami">tutor students for one hour a week and facilitate their understanding on what is being learned in class.
I always have a positive miami">tutoring approach. I don't give my students the answer, but i encourage them to analyze the problem, brainstorm solutions and systematically approach the solution. If they are incorrect, i use positive reinforcement and aid them in trying to figure out the solution. This allows the student to build self-confidence and eventually become self-motivated in wanting to learn. I do not conduct myself as an authority figure so my students are comfortable in my presence, and do not hesitate to ask. My motto, learned from my father, is to A.S.K which means to Always Seek Knowledge.
