Fun Facts

In my free time, I play volleyball and go on Seattle adventures with my friends from Seattle University! In the summer I attend many music festivals with my friends from home in Mill Creek, Washington, where I grew up. Sometimes I go on hikes and shop at Goodwill! I have one younger brother who just graduated high school and I enjoy my dad's dad jokes!

About Me

I am an incoming junior at Seattle University. I am studying Spanish and Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies with a focus in sociology. Following graduation, I will apply to SU’s College of Education. So far, I want to be either a high school teacher helping seniors outline out their post-graduation plans, or working with an organization that travels abroad educating young girls about their rights.

Experience

I have worked at my local YMCA for almost 2 years now. During my time at work, I have countless interactions with kids and teens. During my Freshman year at SU, I tutored students at Lake Washington Girls Middle School in English, Spanish, history, and science. I then worked with 4th-grade students in math at Bailey Gatzert this past winter quarter. By working for Frog Tutoring, I will gain more experience working with students to better my skills as a future educator!

Approach

I have always been a “good” student. It wasn’t until 8th grade that I realized I was just going through the motions of memorizing and regurgitating information, falling short of associating meaning from what I learned. My 8th grade English and history teacher exuded great passion for teaching by getting to know his students outside of the curriculum. He emphasized the value of not only education and truth but also compassion for others, and for this, I commend him.

Psychology Tutoring

I took Psychology and Advanced Placement Psychology in high school, finishing with an A- and B, respectively. I didn't take the Advanced Placement exam, so I enrolled in Introduction to Psychology at Seattle University, finishing with a B. I also assisted my brother a few times studying for his Psychology class. The flexibility of my Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies major allows for the enrollment of a higher-level Psychology class

Spanish I Tutoring

I took four years of Spanish in high school and established this beautiful language as my minor at Seattle University! The ability to speak a second language provides not only an opportunity to understand and appreciate another culture but also successfully interact with the families of students who have Spanish as a first language. I have yet to tutor this subject, but I have had excellent instructors who have shown me effective methods of learning a new language!

Writing Tutoring

My Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies degree requires a number of written pieces that reflect our interdisciplinary approach to solving problems. Further, I was referred by my composition professor in the College of Humanities to the writing center for my research papers. I also revise my younger brother's essays.

Spanish I Tutoring

I retained the four years worth of Spanish I learned in high school and tested out of the first two quarters of level 1000 Spanish at SU. When I took my first Spanish class in spring quarter, I finished with an A-. Since then, I have taken Spanish every quarter as required for my minor, bringing me to six years worth of Spanish study.
