Fun Facts
I am a recent graduate from the University of Utah working as a civil engineer in an architectural firm. I love my job and the constant intellectual challenges it provides to me. I am also a volunteer with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. I am matched with a little that is eight years old. We spend time together each week doing fun activities like swimming, reading, and crafts. I grew up in Wyoming and was involved in competitive swimming for 12 years. I love learning and I love tutoring!
About Me
I have three primary goals for my tutoring experience. I aim to increase my involvement in education and learning as I find great rewards in this field. I also want to help students reach their full potential. Extra one on one time may be the best way to bring some students to be the best they can be. It is also a goal of mine to see students succeed in school and realize the joys of that success.
I have tutored college level math and physics for several years, both one on one and in group settings. I also worked with the University of Utah's Supplemental Instruction program, leading lectures/review sessions three times a week. These sessions included concept review, example problems, homework help, test preparation, and studying techniques. I have also worked in elementary and middle schools as a teacher's aide.
I believe a different tutoring approach is necessary for each individual student. For example, some students need concepts broken down into smaller, more easily understood ideas while other students need lots of practice and example problems. My philosophy is to adapt my tutoring style to best meet the needs of the student. With a unique and individualized tutoring plan, I believe success and growth is more attainable.
