About Me
I'm Marcus Serrano. I'm 22 years old and a fifth year at Fresno State where I am studying to be an elementary school teacher. Teaching is something that I didn't know that I always wanted to do. I didn't realize that I wanted to do it until a few years ago. When I realized it, it was like a huge light bulb moment. I had always been very good with kids and I've always wanted to make a different in the world. Being a teacher is a huge challenge but I look forward to the opportunity to make a difference on a daily basis.
I've informally tutored several people. I've tutored two college students before. Both in statistics and that went really well. I also have tutored two elementary school children. One in sixth grade and one in fourth grade. I tutored them both in math. I tutored them both for several months before they school finished and they moved. In the time that I had them, they both made great strides and now have more confidence in math than they have ever had before. I hear from them every once in a while and they are enjoying their new school like they never have before.
My fresno">tutoring approach is reinforcement. Most of the time I would work with the people I was fresno">tutoring with the lesson that they had just learned. This was especially the case with the elementary school children. I would do this by creating problems for them to practice and also by going over the homework. I would also help them see how they could use what they are learning using real world situations that helped them see everything in a different way. Occasionally we would get a little ahead so I would teach them a lesson that were about to learn.
