About Me
My name is Jake. I was born in Los Angeles but raised in Philadelphia. I come from a small family of my brother, my parents, and me. From a young age, I trained and played tennis competitively. I continued to play through high school, but decided to focus on academics once I got to college. I am now a senior at Drexel University and graduating in the spring of 2014. My postgraduate plans are to attend medical school.
I have tutored/taught in both academic and athletic settings. I have been teaching tennis, both private and group lessons, for the past 4-5 years. I teach students from the age of 5 to competitive high school players to older adult players. With regards to academic philadelphia">tutoring, I tutored freshman Biology students at Drexel University. I have also mentored Pre-Med Volunteers through the volunteer program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
My philadelphia">tutoring approach involves laying down the fundamental principles of the idea or task at hand for the student and explaining the groundwork. After that, once that is understood I move onto more advanced and complex ideas. I draw on examples and analogies to make the material more relatable. If the student feels comfortable with the material, then I like to test their knowledge with practice questions.
