Fun Facts
I am a student at New York University and living in this city makes me miss the nature at home in Trinidad where I would spend weekends hiking and camping with my friends. Since living in the city I take every chance to go down and take walks through Brooklyn Bridge Park. When I am not doing that I love watching Bollywood movies and trying to dance and sing like the heroines. Seeing as I was a member of the choir all through high school, it is clear that I was only good at one out of those two.
About Me
I am a freshman at Tandon School of Engineering at New York University where I am studying Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. I have a GPA of 3.694 and I hope to get my Bachelors and Masters in 5 years instead of 6. After graduating I hope to get a job in research since so far in college, my most enjoyable experiences have been working in the labs. Alternatively, I would also consider pursuing a career teaching perhaps even becoming a professor at a university.
Experience
I have had a lot of experience tutoring children between the ages of 8 to 17 through a program I participated in during high school called the Sixth Formers Association which enabled students in their final year of high school to tutor primary and high school students. I was responsible for teaching Math and Science to a class most of the time but I also took time to teach students individually. I also worked in an orphanage called Hope Centre after school where I would help kids with homework.
Approach
All my tutoring experience has been with underprivileged kids and seeing their potential which was not fully nurtured in their own schools encouraged me to continue to volunteer as a tutor. I tried to foster in them a curiosity about the world of math and science and made up activities to stimulate them and make learning easier. While working in the program mentioned earlier I assisted in facilitating sports days and counselling services to create a safe environment for them to learn.
