About Me

I aspire to have a mutually beneficial experience with the students I mentor/chicago">tutor. No chicago">tutor relationship should be one sided and I believe that both the student and I will grow intellectually and personally. Through one on one sessions I hope to engage and encourage the student to the point where learning is not frustrating or laborious, but rather fun and exhilarating.

At DePaul University I worked with several different student-athletes in the athletic department to better understand coursework
and was available to chicago">tutor in the following subjects: writing and research skills, Spanish, history, music, English, and basic math. With the non-profit RefugeeOne I tutored a refugee boy from Nepal, helping with schoolwork and class load as well as developing English speaking, reading, and writing comprehension. I am happy to say that many of these sessions spawned a friendship while at the same time maintaining the level of professionalism necessary to be a successful chicago">tutor.

My chicago">tutor philosophy is as follows: not all students learn the same way so I begin by identifying which type of learning method (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc) would be most effective. Then, I utilize a scaffolding approach that starts with broad questions that garner basic understanding and then gradually ask more focused/detailed questions striving towards complete comprehension. Finally, I feel it is of the utmost importance to never give answers to students. This does not serve as learning, but merely memorizing. Rather, I feel that asking the right questions that will guide a student towards understanding is a much more effective approach. Indeed, if a student comes to an understanding with their own reasoning, that is much more effective than merely reciting what someone has told you.
