Fun Facts
I love to cook delicious international foods. I also enjoy traveling. I have three amazing children all 4-5 years apart. I am currently a stay-at-home-mother (i.e., chauffeur, cook, maid, “therapist”, and tutor to my 1-year-old and two daughters!) I love watching baseball and basketball, and my favorite film and book genres are documenties and non-fiction; however, I am a geek over the Harry Potter series! I enjoy going to concerts and music festivals.
About Me
I received my undergraduate degree in journalism and then decided to teach. I went to graduate school for teaching K-12, and I am highly qualified to teach all core subjects. I have taught math, English, various sciences, and study skills in elementary school, middle school, and high school. I have experience tutoring ACT prep for all subjects.
Experience
I have been teaching since 2010 where I started as a special education teacher assistant, and then worked as a certified general education teacher and special education teacher since 2011. Ihave been tutoring on and off for 15 years!
I have also been an independent writer for a local newspaper.
Approach
I don't assume that students have a lot of background knowledge because when teachers and tutors do this, they often overlook a skill that needs to be addressed for a learner to fully grasp the idea and master it. I teach one step at a time breaking down the information into manageable parts, and then I have students put the steps together and practice it independently. The human brain is wired to handle information in this way as it fosters long-term retention and mastery.
