I am obsessed with reading. Once I have open a novel, it is almost impossible to close it until the book is complete. Because of this, I usually only read during the summer time. One day I would like to compose my own novel and become a writer...one day.

About Me

I am entering my seventh year teaching! Where does the time go! I have my Masters in reading and literacy through a program that focused heavily on the National Board Certifications for Teachers. My passion is in assisting students in their discovery of loving to read, but I honestly just enjoy hearing, "I don't get it." change to, "I know how to do it, let me take it from here." I have a six year old who will be entering first grade in the fall, and she loves to learn just as much as I love to

Experience

I am entering my seventh year teaching. I have been tutoring four years of those seven. I've tutored students from Memphis, TN to Walls, MS, to Omaha, NE. I usually tutor kindergarten-2nd grade students who are usually working on identifying sight words, reading comprehension, and writing, This year, I tutored fifth grader who was struggling with math particularly fractions.

Approach

As a tutor, my approach is simple. I do not expect each child I tutor to learn the say way. I expect a child to learn their way. With that being said, I modify my teaching style to meet the needs of the child. My tutoring section consist of a lot of hands-on activities. Sometimes students need that traditional sit-down one-on-one interactions. Other times we are out of our seat doing different movements, stretching, dancing, and making handshakes all while learning.
