Fun Facts
Outside of education, a few of my hobbies include sewing (I make some of my own clothes and useful household items), crocheting (I make a mean pair of winter socks), diving (it is indeed as scary as it looks), rock climbing (somehow, I never developed a fear of heights), composing electronic music (Ableton is my program of choice), and aimlessly exploring streets and parks (discovering new places is fun, just like discovering new math is fun!).
About Me
I am a high school math teacher with three years of teaching experience who is looking to tutor fulltime. Tutoring out of class was by far my favorite part of my job because tutoring allows me to focus on individual students' unique needs in a way I find incredibly rewarding.
I am certified to teach math in NYS public schools for grades 7-12.
Education:
Master of Arts in Teaching in Mathematics, Bard College (2015). GPA 4.0
B.A., Mathematics, Bard College (2013). GPA 3.7
Experience
I have been teaching math at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH for three years. I have taught every course from Algebra I to BC Calculus. Here, I tutored roughly six hours per week outside of my regular teaching. I spent two years tutoring all levels of math in college, and I spent a full year tutoring while getting my Masters (see education info in my "About me" section). I began working with children in 2006, when I became a swim teacher and camp counselor.
Approach
Having success as a math major and a teacher at one of the top Independent schools in the country, I am familiar with methods for supporting students to learn successfully on their own. My goal is to make myself unnecessary! I am eager to try a variety of approaches to best address the needs of every individual student; I know that a one-size-fits-all approach does not yield results for everyone. I work well with a variety of students because I am friendly, firm yet easygoing, and approachable.
