About Me
I got my BA, cum laude, in Philosophy and Religion from Middlebury, currently the #4 liberal arts school in the country, in 2009. Since then I've gotten my certificate in Waldorf education from Antioch University New England, where I'm working on my M.Ed. thesis. For the past five years, I've taught full time in a couple of independent high schools, developing my own innovative global curriculum in the humanities and social sciences. Now I'm working on becoming a licensed teacher in Seattle.
Experience
I've worked one on one with diverse students over the years, as a paraeducator, after-school program employee, teacher and freelance tutor. I've helped successfully with college papers, standardized test prep, and homework in subjects across the humanities and social sciences. Give me a shout for a free consultation, and see if I'm the right fit for you!
Approach
While I've always been a top student, I've also known intense struggles with attentional issues, time management, and meta-cognitive strategy. Through hard work and no small amount of mentorship, I've learned to compensate and reach my potential. Now I want to pay it forward! I'm profoundly motivated by the expansion of possibilities that comes with finding one's confidence and agency in learning. I strive to help my students believe in themselves and rekindle their enthusiasm for knowledge.

Graduate CourseworkEnglish Tutoring
My philosophy/religion joint major included a great deal of literary analysis from a multi-disciplinary perspective. I also took and did well in many English courses, and am a publishing poet and essayist. I've taught high school English for the past five years and graduated cum laude from a top liberal arts college (Middlebury '09). I've got experience in, knowledge of and, most importantly, enthusiasm for just about every area and period of English and world literature, and can bring a global perspective from ancient tablets to contemporary poetry. I love writing, words and even grammar! I can help you find your own connection with the text, then hone your paper-writing skills from close reading to research to pre-writing to polishing.
History Tutoring
I'm a largely self-taught history buff with a passion for the postcolonial world and a broad grasp of world-systems-style "big history" from the Paleolithic to the present. My interdisciplinary humanities background from the #4 liberal arts school in the US helped me approach my current work as a high school history teacher with an interdisciplinary and global perspective paired with solid research and analytical skills. So whether you're trying to make sense of a peer-reviewed article on Maya archaeology, analyzing contemporary film treatments of the Russian Revolution, or writing a comparison of Trump, Peron, and Berlusconi, I'd love to talk and think it through with you -- and help you ace that paper or test!

International Studies Tutoring
While I did not major in IR, I have a broad and deep background in relevant disciplines. As a philosophy and religion major I stayed mostly on the theory side, but since becoming a high school social studies teacher I've been a passionate autodidact in social science fields from economics to anthropology, always with a global, comparative lens. I'm also quite politically committed in the left-wing, internationalist tradition (I take my bearings from the likes of Vijay Prashad, Patrick Bond, Monthly Review and the New Left Review), but I also have Henry Kissinger on my bookshelf and am also an avid reader of the Economist and Foreign Affairs, and love engaging in debate on points of view from neo-Marxism to neo-conservatism. I'm not a big quant guy but have a solid grasp of international economic fundamentals as well as the more qualitative, humanities-focused side of the discipline.
