Fun Facts

I played classical violin in three separate orchestras until I reached eighteen and focused on theater. I am a travel enthusiast, and chose to live in London after graduating college not only to advance my theater career, but to be able to travel through Europe easier. I am addicted to learning about and experiencing new cultures! Also, I am a diehard baseball fan and college basketball fan - my teams are Cleveland Indians and University of Louisville Cardinals.

About Me

I am screenwriter and filmmaker, and have worked as a professional in these fields for six years. Prior, I was Sales Coordinator at HanWay Films in London, where I oversaw coverage of new scripts, as well as creating copy for all sales materials. All the while, I was writing and producing theater at the Royal National Theater, Finborough Theater, and Battersea Arts Center. I trained at Boston University, London Academy of Music and Royal Shakespeare Company. I had minor studies in History at BU

Experience

With a 4.7 high school GPA, and National Merit Scholar, I was asked to join the tutoring force as a teenager. I tutored History, Spanish and English. I also tutored at the local Battered Women's Shelter. Those students were in grade school, so we focused on general ed studies as well as homework practice and skills. At college, I found the skills of leading a rehearsal room and learning how history and literature intersect with art, expanded my tutoring skills in English, Writing and History.

Approach

I was a shy kid who had the answers but didn't know how to speak up or marry my intellect with pro-activity in the classroom. My drama teacher and my English teacher in middle school both expanded my understanding of how to learn, discuss concepts and find courage in the classroom. In short, I found a zeal for school and learning. With a blend of academic strength and experience in the arts, I think I am uniquely prepared to not only help students absorb lessons but promote confidence in class.

History Tutoring

I received 5's in AP American History and AP European History, and received A marks in Political Philosophy at Harvard Summer School, and A marks in Constitutional Government and Policy at Georgetown Summer School. Once in college, I took a minor course of study at Boston University in History, focusing on Russian History, American History, Art History and a specific interest in the history of international trade, colonization, and government building. I received all A marks. History figures heavily in my work, and the ability to research, interpret and apply historical events and movements is a daily and essential part of either constructing new scripts, or reading new material sent to me for notes or adaptation.

Homework Coach Tutoring

I volunteered as a homework helper with kids living at Battered Women's Shelters in my hometown of Akron, Ohio, and continued to do so while in college in Boston. Those years taught me how to be a thoughtful, sensitive coach to students who can promote skills and mindful studying while also being incredibly sensitive to every kid's needs and particular stressors.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

As a professional writer, and after years of working in production and handling coverage reports of all submitted scripts and material, I consistently have to quickly and efficiently read and digest content. Applying that professional experience to my degrees in literature and playwriting at Boston University, and my AP English experience which got me a 5 mark, allows me to be very nimble in what I can handle as a reading comprehension tutor at any skill level.

Arts Tutoring

Studied Dramatic Literature, Art History, and produced theater, dance, and music all as part of my BFA studies. I lead classes for non-majors in all these subjects, as well as directed productions for artists across mediums in the college of fine arts. I studied directing and classical theater at the RSC and LAMDA in London, where I went on to intern and produce theater in London for the next three years, including at the National Theatre. I worked with college age students to understand classical theater text, Aristotle's Poetics, and how that intersects with dramatic literature comprehension as a TA for two years.

English Tutoring

I received a 5 in AP English, while also studying dramatic and comparative literature at Harvard Summer School and at the American Repertory Theater, where I received A marks. At Boston University I studied Dramatic Literature, Comparative Literature, Russian Literature, and specialized study in the Classics and Shakespeare while at LAMDA and the Royal Shakespeare Company. I made Dean's List every year. After graduating, I lead workshops for students in writing and dramatic literature in London, and went back to do the same for high school students at my alma mater in Ohio. I study, interpret, read, and adapt the english language as my committed profession since graduating, and have done so without interval. My job consists of reading and digesting and being able to provide insight or notes on English language material ranging from books, articles, essays, scripts, and plays. I have performed these tasks for companies ranging in size from small independent firms to the large film studios, such as Walt Disney, Fox, and Warner Brothers.
