Fun Facts
Outside of academics, I have a passion for art, music, and many forms of creativity. I am about to start classes as an art student at the Southwest School of art. In my spare time I enjoy checking out new restaurants in town, tending to my indoor garden, traveling, and going to local concerts and art shows. I am also an avid runner and yogi. Staying active one of my favorite pastimes!
About Me
I am a certified special education and art teacher for grades K-12. I am also certified as a general education teacher for grades 3-7 and have worked with students in grades pre-K through 7th. I have recently completed my fifth year as an elementary school co-teacher in NEISD. After teaching through Summer 2017, I have resigned as a teacher to further my personal education and pursue a degree in Fine Arts.
Experience
As a co-teacher I am very familiar with state standards (TEKS) and how they are tested on the STAAR state assessments. Having worked with several grade levels, I am also very familiar with how TEKS scaffold from grade to grade and am able to help students prepare for future grade levels. Beyond my elementary school experience, I have also greatly enjoyed my work with students in pre-school and middle school. I have extensive experience teaching students with and without disabilities.
Approach
I have a passion for guiding students toward discovering their strengths and overcoming challenges. My priority to foster self-empowerment within students and allow them to take ownership of their effort and achievement. Rather than give students repeated examples, I have learned that students are best able to build new skills when they understand the process and make connections to prior knowledge. Successful tools include: scaffolding, visual aids, and positive reinforcement.

I am a certified art teacher. Personally, I have college-level training in drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. For the last 2 years, I have been the Campus Art Program Coordinator for my campus.
