Fun Facts

I lived in Tunisia with the Peace Corps, and in Azerbaijan with the United States Department of State. I love living and traveling abroad. I am an adventurous person. I have jumped out of an airplane -- five times! When I am living in the States, I like to swim, read, eat out, and cook. I have a fiance, with whom I hope to marry in the next two years, and two crazy cats!

About Me

I have been accepted to medical school, but I am waiting until I save up more money to attend. I am presently a substitute teacher with NEISD for all grades and ages. I am a private tutor and I also tutor college students online. I most recently tutored English to Chinese students for a company named 51Talk. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Russian Area Studies from Texas Tech University, and a Master's Degree in International Management.

Experience

I have taught and tutored many students for over ten years while substituting, in groups and one-on-one. I have tutored everything from Chemistry to English. I have also helped prepare students for standardized tests. I tutor college students in mainly English, Writing, the Humanities, and Business. During the past 25 years, I have had many occasions to teach foreign students English as a second language.

Approach

I am a very visual learner, as are many of my students. Therefore, I employ many visual aids when I teach and tutor. However, I try to find out what kind of learner all my students are, and then cater to their needs and learning style. I also try to keep the lessons upbeat with lots of variety. I feel that if the student learns while having fun, then he or she is able to retain more of what he or she learns.
