Fun Facts
I absolutely love reading and writing. Even when I am not engaged in either activity for school, I spend my time working on new pieces of writing, reading all types of books, or going to readings. I also love spending time outside with my dog, we go for long walks throughout Chicago and spend a lot of time near Lake Michigan. I also love to cook and try new types of food.
About Me
I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. I have done quite a bit of teaching and chicago">tutoring throughout the Chicago area and I would like to continue teaching after I graduate. I would ultimately love to teach creative writing. I have published my poems and critical essays widely and just published my first poetry book last spring. Also, I have presented critical papers at several conferences.
Since my days as an undergraduate I have usually been chicago">tutoring in some form. While I was at the University of Colorado-Boulder, I taught English to migrant workers. Some of this was done in groups but a great deal of it was one-on-one. Also in Colorado, I worked with several Ukrainian women who wanted to improve both their written and spoken English. In Chicago I have worked with several students, ranging in level from elementary school to college. I have helped the younger students with all aspects of their education: English, Math, Reading, History, Study Habits, etc. With the older students I focus more on English Literature, Composition, Reading, and Writing. I have also taught at the college level.
When I think about my chicago">tutoring style, I think about my own educational experiences. I think about what worked for me, as well as what did not work for me. I was a good student but had trouble engaging some subjects. The parts of my education that stick out the most to me are the teachers who really made class and the material exciting, engaging, and fun. I have been lucky to have had many teachers over the years who truly inspired me to throw myself into whatever it was we were studying. This is something I strive for in my own chicago">tutoring. I want my students to be as excited as possible about what they are doing. I believe this creates a space where learning happens strongly and deeply. I want to simultaneously support and challenge my students.
Experience
I am an adjunct faculty instructor at several community colleges around the Chicagoland area.
