What about me isn't fun?! Just kidding. I'm a news junkie and feel a little lost evey day that I can't at least read the major headlines. I love diving into news magazines to learn more about the subjects for which I'm passionate - culture, politics, animals, human behavior. I'm also extremely passionate about fitness so if I'm not at work, I'm at the gym. I am also very close to my family - my sister, mom and dad all live within a 20 mile radius. I love spending time with them at family dinners

About Me

I graduated from Texas Tech University twice. Once for my undergraduate degree in Public Relations and a second time for my master's degree in Mass Communication. My graduate GPA was a 3.7. My undergraduate GPA was a 3.5. I am very much a leader in our community here in Austin. I am an active member of Young Women's Alliance, I am a Big Sister in Big Brothers Big Sisters and I am a decorated Toastmaster in Austin's largest public speaking chapter.

I volunteered as a austin">tutor for a year between undergrad and grad school. Each week I would provide five hours of austin">tutoring to a multi-student classroom on a variety of subjects at the elementary level. In addition, during graduate school, I served as an English language austin">tutor for the public libaray system. I currently austin">tutor my little sister in Big Brothers Big Sisters with all of her 7th grade homework and test preparation.

I think it's important to get down to the nitty gritty of understanding how each person learns. Maybe this person needs a practical application for the problem, maybe another needs repetition, maybe a third needs a patient person to start at the beginning and walk him or her through it. There is no "right" way to learn and there is no "right" way to teach. It's about bringing the problem down to the student's level and bringing him or her up. The worst thing a teacher can do is add on to the stress of the problem by seeming impatient, in a hurry or above the start-level. I also think that every problem starts with a conversation. I am not easily bothered and I am happy to adjust my style to help someone else have a smoother experience.
