Fun Facts

I am no stranger to making friends and integrating myself into new and different classroom settings. I have been a military child for 19 years and have moved eleven different times, lived in eight states and spent four years in Germany. My passions range from reading mystery novels to playing Disney Scene It with my friends. My best friend in the whole world is my loving weenie dog, Lillie.

About Me

I am currently a sophomore Biology major at Texas Christian University, and am perusing a minor in Chemistry and Psychology. My goal after college is to remain in my home state of Texas and attend Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for medical school. I am a member of the Pre Health Society, AED here at TCU. My favorite organization is Best Buddies, a program in which this semester I will be paired with an awesome buddy who has an intellectual and developmental disability.

My mother is a education/texas/fort-worth">special education teacher at the elementary school in my small hometown. Her role allowed me to easily be integrated into the elementary and junior high education system. I tutored students ranging from 2nd to 8th grade, with a focus on math and science. Her expertise never failed me in coming up with innovative ways to assist ALL students in excelling. With a school district totaling under 1,500 students I was so blessed to have the opportunity to build personalized relationships with many of the students. I am so excited for the opportunity to get back into a position that is not only rewarding but incredibly fun!

My approach to tutoring involves fun through learning. A semester has come and gone and some of the finite details of Intro Biology have now evaded me, but although it's been 10+ years I can still sing the full set of School House Rock songs. This is an example, that by allowing a relaxed and fun environment we can remove the pressures and negative connotations associated with the words "test" and "homework." My goal when tutoring is not to help students memorize the way to do problems but to learn how to apply skills, and problem solving techniques, so that they can understand and apply logical thinking to all questions they will ever encounter. The confidence that a fun relationship with a tutor instills will further push students to succeed whether alone in a test or together.
