Fun Facts
I am the second oldest in my family of six, however the oldest girl. My most favorite thing to do is rock climb and bike ride through Woodlawn Lake Park. I love the feeling I get when I climb to the top and look down. I also love participating in my community which is why I am the youngest board member on my neighborhood association.
About Me
I am a senior at St. Mary's University majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Biology. I have several learning disabilities and was told by the St. Mary's academic councilor that I'm better off at a community college and wouldn't be able to finish college however, I am about to graduate with a good academic stance. I am applying to different grads school to study Public Health in Occupational and Environmental Health.
As a part of my work-study at St. Mary's University I get to tutor students in Geology, Ecology and Environmental Science. I also volunteer as tutor/mentor in a program that helps older nontraditional students obtain their GED, called Each One Teach One. I have always found tutoring as a good learning experience because somehow I end up learning something new from the students. It's a rewarding gratifying feeling to be able to help especially because I know what it's like to need tutoring.
Since I started school in kindergarten, I have struggled with my learning disability. I learned from one of my speech therapies how to teach myself and be my own learning advocate. The tools that I learned from my experience are tools that I use to tutor at Each One Teach One which help students develop study skills. I like to help students develop good study habits.
